I am searching for the company GBH that makes this little mod. I also have not found anyone who has used it, but I am looking. If I cant find anyone who has, then I will get it myself (and shipping will kill me). It is supposed to help prevent the slipping that some people complain about in their Haro Turbine, Odyssey Reloader, or Ultimate Hardware Free-coaster. The two prongs go into the little flaps of the springs. But really, if you bend the springs out flat a little bit, it works very well anyway.

Here is Jon Hillstrom’s description of his GBH mod:

I have been running it close to three years now in an ultimate-hardware turbine clone and lately an early Odyssey Reloader(revolver? before they changed the design).

The mod works by replacing the thin and thick washers behind the clutch. It has two grub-screws that keeps it from rotating around the axle and two prongs that go in between the springs inside the clutch, thus increasing both spring tension and friction.

It can be tricky to install the springs as the fit is tight, but it is well worth it as the hubs reliability improves greatly.

What is not so nice is that backpedalling is way harsh before you have broken it in.

This is because the clutch is sliding on a fixed surface instead of several sliding ones as in the stock hub (poverty made things even smoother with the thrust-bearing).

After an hour or so, the harshness disappears and because the increased spring tension and the grub screws holding them in place, you can now grease this area more generously as spring friction against the axle is no longer needed.

Slack can be adjusted by adding or removing washers behind the mod, but the length of the prongs can be a limiting factor.

If the stroke of the clutch is too long the springs can get misaligned, although the amount of slack you can have before this happens should be enough for anyone ( probably over 180 degrees of crank-stroke).

I can highly recommend the mod to anyone having problems with their turbine clone as the mod will likely solve all reliability issues. If you have an old Odyssey hub with polished axle you can but a notch or two on it so the grub screws really can bite( why Odyssey put a polished axle in a hub relying on axle-friction is beyond me..).
