I love building wheels and experimenting with new and different ideas. So, every now and then, even though my wheels are still good, I build up a new set. I wanted to do another coaster wheel. But I was tired of seeing the same old wheels built up all over the place ( i.e. Geisha laced up to a hazard lite or Balance). So I figured I would take what all those wheels were aiming for and make one that is lighter. After researching, I realized that the lightest hubs available (in the road bike realm) were unsealed hubs. Well, I wasn’t about to build up a Taska or another coaster-brake, so I opted for the Nankai. One major advantage of getting a Techno-lite is that there are many different accessories designed for it. I have worked for a while on designing it, and once I realized that my tax refund would be more than $400, I decided to go for it...
Hub:
- Profile 48h, aluminum shell.
- London Bikes Titanium Axle
- 9t driver
- Ground and cut Clutch to remove extra material (a whole 6g!)
- Drive side (super deep) cone nut was replaced with a small cone nut.
- Lock nuts replaced for smaller ones
- Brake arm Nut replaced with aluminum washers (including one on the drive side to keep the spacing correct.
- Eastern Axle’s Nuts (deep adapter for pegs and chain-tensioners)
- I Opted to get ceramic balls, but decided to run the steel ones until I determined that the cone nut would work fine.

Spokes:
- Union Titanium 14g
- I tried to get the bladed versions, but my distributor told me they stopped making them (I was really excited too).
- DT Swiss Black Alloy Nipples
- Finish-line Ti-Prep
Rim:
- Primo Balance 7005 48h Ti chrome finish.
